WHO IS PHOENIX BELL-SHELTON BIGGS

Phoenix Bell-Shelton Biggs is a passionate and committed individual whose work and identity are deeply intertwined with their spiritual journey and social justice advocacy. They identify as Queer, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and non-binary and they are called the path of ministry and public theology. Phoenix’s life and work are driven by a profound to radical love, care, and sanctuary movements, all of which are central to their vocation.

Their call to ministry is not just a profession but a deeply rooted mission to disrupt patriarchy and dismantle systems of oppression, paving the way for a more just and inclusive world. Phoenix served as an intern minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Fredericksburg, VA, where they actively engaged in ministerial duties and community care, contributing to the spiritual growth and well-being of the congregation. They have served on the Board of Directors for the UU Mental Health Network, the Board of the UU Young Adult Revival Network (UUYarn), and as a Young Adult worship leader and chaplain with UUYARN. As of June 2024, Phoenix began a one-year residency in Spiritual Health at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Their educational journey is rooted in both media and religious studies. Phoenix is an M.Div graduate of Meadville Lombard Theological School, class of 2024. They also hold an AS degree in Media Production from Pellissippi State Community College and a BS in Religious Studies from Middle Tennessee State University. These academic pursuits have provided them with a unique blend of skills, allowing them to effectively communicate and advocate for the causes they are passionate about, particularly in the areas of social justice, spiritual care, and public theology. Their education shapes their theological perspective and equips them with the tools needed to lead and inspire others in their faith community and beyond. Central to Phoenix’s calling is a commitment to radical love and sanctuary movements. They are dedicated to disrupting systems of oppression, including patriarchy, and advocating for marginalized communities. This commitment is reflected in their work and ministry, where they strive to create spaces of sanctuary and care, particularly for those who are often overlooked or marginalized within society. Their experiences have profoundly influenced Phoenix’s spiritual development in seminary and ministry. As a UU Christian, they have found new ways to ground themselves spiritually and to assist others in their spiritual journeys. Their work is characterized by a deep sense of empathy and a desire to provide pastoral care that is inclusive, affirming, and transformative.

Beyond their professional and academic life, Phoenix enjoys spending time in nature, traveling, eating vegan food, engaging in theater, and enjoying a good cup of coffee. These activities help them maintain a healthy balance in life and ground themselves emotionally and spiritually. Phoenix Bell-Shelton Biggs is a dynamic and dedicated individual whose work in ministry, social justice, and theology is making a meaningful impact. Their journey is one of growth, healing, and a deep commitment to creating a more just and loving world.
